hi guys! i’ve been totally out of it all week trav­el­ing and prepar­ing for this week’s talks and i just wanted to take a quick time out this morn­ing to say thank you to every­one who came out to the d*s meetup on tues­day in port­land, thank you to carla at adler & co for host­ing all of us, and thanks to every­one at IDSA for hav­ing me as their keynote speaker and to all the kind peo­ple to talked to me after­wards with ques­tions and ideas. it was truly an honor to rep­re­sent the diy com­mu­nity at the event. today i’m headed to blogher for my final talk of the week and then i’m back to work on the final edits for the d*s book manuscript.

Mobil­ity may be the defin­ing buzz­word of the past cen­tury, but what will become of all of those gas-guzzling, suburb-fueling portable homes of the future past? These two con­verted Airstream trail­ers (now art and writ­ing stu­dios respec­tively) are at the heart of that ques­tion in many ways – iconic sym­bols of a mobile soci­ety, RVs now recy­cled from aero­dy­namic campers into niche spaces. The first is still semi-mobile, but def­i­nitely local: the so-called “Tin Can Stu­dio is a mobile project space housed in a con­verted 18ft Stream­line trailer.
