Obama’s Expensive Chicken Wing Dinner

Okay, so I don’t know exactly what they are serving at this gala-dinner event. And no, the title of this post is not intended to be racist but to point out a dichotomy between ‘expensive’ and a relatively ‘cheap’ food source. Chicken wings just happen to come to mind. If it makes the reader happy, I suppose I can change ‘chicken wing dinner’ to ‘fish fry’ even tho a fish fry would probably cost more. But why bother me about semantics.

In a few days (or weeks) from now, an acquaintance will be attending a dinner event with Barack Obama. The price tag? $4,000.

Will This Site Work in my Browser?

Q. Will This Site Work in my Browser?

A. Good question moron. I don’t know. Try it. I heard it busts wide open in IE 6. I haven’t even dicked around with Safari. I’m not about to.

Q. Do you have any plans to make this site work with my browser?

A. Welcome to the year 2008 buddy. Upgrade your browser and get with the program.

Q. Is this site XHMTL valid?

A. Hell no. It works in the latest Opera, Firefox, and even (cough) IE. That’s all that matters.

Q. Is the CSS valid?

Setting up Wordpress

Hopefully I am closing in on the last of the more technical posts for this blog. I wanted to steer away from these topics as they tend to bore the average reader. On the other hand, I will add that technically-related writings tend to bring in a large reader base - especially if you write about something obscure or unusual. With the past two weeks of fiddling with this website, website setup and installation has been foremost on my mind so it is an easier topic for me to hit upon.

Wordpress, Blogging Systems, and this Website

Blogging Origins

I’m an old-school blogger and website developer/designer. Originally, I had a blog called ‘Lunarlog’ (off of my main website Lunarstudio which started off on a very good note and gained a fair amount of popularity. That blog had been created in a time when most people never even heard of the term ‘blog.’ I had used an early system that I installed and hooked in called Movabletype (famous for bloggers blogging on Typepad.) Over a short amount of time, Lunarlog fell into a very sad state of disrepair.

Why MightyFunk?

Q: Why do you have the name Mightyfunk?

A: Because every singular word for domain names in the english language has already been taken or put on market for exorbitant prices. I went down a list of names that sounded catchy, but all of them had been nabbed. Then I went down two-word domain names and this suddenly popped into my head for no apparent reason whatsoever. I was actually surprised that it was available. I was even more surprised that the .net and mightyfunky.com was available which I quickly registered.

Why this Blog?

There’s really no simple answer. However, I can list a few reasons:

Personal Reasons:

  1. Ego. Yes, I like to blab sometimes…
  2. Being social. As much as I’m embarrassed to admit, I do occasionally find people fascinating.
  3. Sharing artwork, photos, and music.
  4. Spreading strange and interesting news. When I come across something incredibly stupid, I feel a moral obligation to share these findings with others.
  5. Possibly getting a few friends to get together to create a community of interesting posts.
  6. Boredom. I have a slight break from real work and thought this could be fun to do…

What is a Blog?

This is probably one of most misunderstood concepts and I thought I’d elaborate upon what some of us might consider to be completely obvious. When most people think of a ‘weblog’ or ‘blog’, an image usually comes to mind of some loser rambling about their problems or mundane existence for the rest of world to see. While this may be true in the majority of cases, this couldn’t be farther from the origin of the word ‘blog.’
