Everyday Growing by Juliette Warmenhoven
2010-08-13 18:31:55

Sight Unseen has a nice feature up this week about Juliette Warmenhovem who makes odd contraptions and vessesls from plastic, paper and fiberglass to celebrate the growth and nurturing of plant life in domestic space. Pictured top are a bonsai incubator, left and germination vessels on the right, including a plant cuttings holding tank and a water supply device that helps seedlings sprout. Below, a music box that twirls a potato around on a pedestal, “highlighting the hidden beauty of a potato.” Here’s an excerpt: Her father is a flower farmer.

MetaMirror: Notion’s vision for the (near) future of TV
2010-08-10 10:49:42

In an answer to the ongoing debate about whether next generation television will be powered by the internet or existing television infrastructure, Irish design studio Notion have proposed MetaMirror , a vision of living room media that combines broadcasting technologies with the power of metadata, streamed via the internet to smart, handheld devices and superimposed over the existing image. Developments in IPTV, the ubiquity capacitative touch sensitivity, and advancements in smart object recognition are cited as driving technologies. The context photo above, depicting a very familiar scene of screens upon screens , convinced us that this idea (or a version of it) is not so far fetched at all

In a category of vastly similar products, Scholz & Friends’s clever package design quickly distinguishes the product

Folks, you have to wonder why no one else thought of this a long time ago: This headphones packaging design (released last month by the European branch of Panasonic) was designed by Berlin-based Scholz & Friends , a creative agency whose motto is “Surprise! Convince!” As Scholz & Friends explained to the Coloribus Global Advertising Archive , The selection of earphones is huge and the products are often interchangeable. What Causes Nokia Erections!
2010-07-28 11:30:46

It’s not a hot-blonde-Sony or gorgeous Apples, but plain simple laws of physics that causes this Nokia to get an erection! The physical kind! I mean the Kinetic kind! The concept is this, for every incoming call, text, email or alarm, the phone gets super excited and gets…standing tall! Yup the brief was to make the phone as playful as possible…as if a vibration mode was not enough! And if it’s not the right person calling or the alarm too soon…simply tap the phone back to deflate the …erection! Umm…cold shower won’t do! On a more serious note, here’s more info on the Nokia Kinetic – a seriously playful mobile phone for 2012. The reason behind the erection is an electromagnet in the base of the phone that allows a weight to be shifted, causing the phone to stand up
